Advice time!

Um. So. The CUSU LGBTU does not have a president. We had an open meeting today at which people could stand for president. Nobody stood for president. There is, therefore, still a presidential spot open. I asked the exec people if the fact that I'm a first-year would be a problem if I applied; they said no, and seemed very keen for me to do it.

In terms of time management - I could probably handle it, I think. It would involve about five hours of my time per week; I have rehearsals maybe once or twice a week on top of my regular schedule, and...well, NaNo is obviously going to complicate things somewhat but this is not the kind of opportunity you get every day.

The people I have spoken to so far seem to think it is a good idea, and this is encouraging. And I really want to do this -  I know I haven't much experience either presidenting or being part of a gay scene, but I think I could do it well; I maybe have just about enough personality to make it work. Nevertheless, well, I have no experience presidenting and I might well suck.

So. Um.

Should I apply?

ETA: Thank you for all the votes of confidence! I have decided to sleep on it; if I still feel this good about it in the morning, I'll apply.

ooh yes you should! :D Sounds like it'd be a good opportunity and at least if it does prove to be horribly time-consuming, at least the first year isn't so important degree-wise and you can always bow out gracefully next year.

I say go for it, if you feel you can handle it schedule-wise! I can imagine you being really very good. :-)

Go for it :D

I've only met you once, of course, but I think you'd be rather good at it.

Do eet!

(Also, you are doing NaNo! This is an excellent thing.)

How exciting, Rei! Absolutely go for it. You should have an awesome support network (chief job of a president is *delegation*, obviously!) and it would be really great for you to be involved with CUSU from the start. :-)

Did you make it to the CULES auditions, babe? I've been very sick and out of Cambridge all week, I'm well behind the times. I hope so, in any case! And do go for the presidency. Better someone fresh and keen, knowing they need to learn the ropes, rather than someone arrogant swanning in there thinking they already know it all, knocking things over with their ego.

Em x

Thanks for that - I'm going to sleep on it, I think, but with such an overwhelming positive response I think I probably will go for it :)

I did indeed make it to the CULES auditions - I am Stupid Henchman 1 in the panto! You posted about being sick - when are we expecting you back? Are you feeling any better?

If you ask me, having no previous experience of the gay scene may stand you in good stead for the job. You'll be able to see things for a clear perspective and not be subject to what older types might call "how it was in my day".

Can't say whether you should or shouldn't, but good luck if you decide to. :)

I, for one, approve of this plan! I don't think it's experience so much as enthusiasm (ahem) that counts in these types of things, so if you want to, you should definitely give it a go. :DDD

GO FOR IT, BABE. You're eager, and willing to learn, and that makes you more than ready imo. :] So. Just keep a clear head and be willing to ask for help and you're good.

yes.

...wait, you wanted more than just a yes/no answer?

*pause for thought*

definitely yes.
