A friend of mine commented that a Dalek "said 'Doctor' in a sort of sexual voice" in the latest Doctor Who episode.

Now, I know that there are a lot of strange pairings out there, but Doctor/Dalek? Even I can't quite picture that one. He's a Time Lord, and they're...well...they're of the metal-and-squid persuasion. I can't see it happening. People would talk. Anyway, all they really have are those little probe things, and they're a bit too sho - let's finish that thought before it starts.

On what might now seem a slightly worrying note, I've started writing again! Still need to finish Atlantis, which I'm still a bit stuck on (I know where I'm going, I just don't quite know how to get there) but I'm halfway through a mini-story about one of my characters. Which is awesome. Sometimes I need to do a piece like that just to reassure myself that I still can. If I think it's good enough, I might stick it on here when I'm done...which, again, is something I've not done in months...

Hmm. I can't think of a great deal else to say, which...might also be a little worrying, as I haven't updated this thing since, what, last year? I've been lurking in other peoples' comment-threads. Thing is...I'm pretty sure that some stuff has happened, as the reason I haven't actually sat down and updated my LJ in so long is that real life sort of caught up with me. And swept me along in its embrace. Or something.

Oh! I decided to apply for Cambridge, if only to get the rejection letter. If they'll let me combine Japanese and Chinese, that'd be awesome; my mum says I should take a Chinese degree course and do Japanese on the side, as Japanese is the language I've already studied, but...there's a reason for that. Japanese is the one that really interests me, culture-wise. The worst that can happen is that I'll have to start learning it from scratch and have a few months of very, very easy language lessons. I'm not in it just for linguistic fluency. Can't study Japanese history and literature if my proper degree is in Chinese.

Of course, what I'd really like is to learn both. But if I can get a grounding in Chinese studies and specialise in Japanese, then that's really what I want to do. Sorry, Mum.

My grandfather has fractured his hand, which means he stayed at our house for most of last week. It wasn't that bad; he doesn't demand quite as much attention as the Italian side of the family, possibly because he actually speaks English and doesn't mind doing a bit of walking. I think it's killed my mother, though. They're off to Bologna with him in a few days; then Yuffie's coming to stay with me ^_^ I can't wait. (Officially, she's coming to take a break from her own home life, and also because Chiswick is closer to Egham than Shepherd's Bush, so she can get to uni more easily. But I also don't really want to spend the time alone.)

One last thing - since House came on TV again, I've been watching it rather than downloading it from tvlinks sitting around moping about the lack of House anywhere. I've also noticed that Channel Five never seem to miss an opportunity to get customers to call a premium rate phoneline. And...for £10,000, couldn't they make the questions a tiny bit harder? I mean, it's worth a lot of money. I saw one question about which was a bone in the leg - the femur, the lemur, or...I can't remember the other one. The idea of a lemur in someone's leg makes me giggle insanely and squeal in pain. (That's assuming they bite.)

The smoke from my neighbour's chimney is making me feel ill. Time to go downstairs and immerse myself in cooking odours, I think.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who had thoughts of Doctor/Dalek.

Good luck with the Cambridge application! I'm sorry to hear about your granddad, though.
